Mumbai: Thane Building Collapse Kills Eight


Thane, Oct 26 (IANS): At least eight people, including six women and a girl, were killed in Tuesday night's building crash in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi, police said Wednesday.

The Diwali-eve tragedy struck the three-storied building, situated in the congested Gautam Compound New Colony, killing at least four on the spot and injuring 20 others, a police officer said.

Four of the injured succumbed to their injuries Wednesday.

A majority of the residents in the building, said to be around two years old, were Muslims. The owner of the building, Jagdish Pendam, and a local builder, Naseer Syed, have been arrested.
