Shiv Sena's Youth Wing Gyrates to Sheela's Jawani

Daijiworld Media Network

Mumbai, Oct 18: They may claim to be 'custodians' of culture, but when celebration time came, the Yuva Sena, the youth wing of Shiv Sena, seemed to have got into a mode of temporary amnesia. Or perhaps, as Uddhav Thackeray recently claimed, it may be just one of the 'changes' to the party!

The occasion was the first year anniversary celebration of Yuva Sena. It was not that they celebrated, but the manner in which they did it that had many an eyebrow going up. Actress dressed in skimpy clothes danced seductively to tunes of Marathi songs and Hindi numbers like Sheela Ki Jawani and other popular item numbers, amidst the glow of disco lights and whistles. There were even bar stools and electric lights instead of diyas.

The party was at Shanmukhananda Hall, Sion on Monday October 17 evening. For once, the 'cultured' youth let their hair down and enjoyed the celebration heartily.

The occasion was quite a paradox to the Sena's stand on culture and celebrations. It has been known to vandalise anything that it finds offensive, or against Indian ethos, especially among youth. Valentine's Day is a prime example, when even greeting card stores are not spared for 'encouraging' western culture. Moreover the party is also known to create headaches for movie makers who dare to take on bold themes, 'Girlfriend' being one such, for its depiction of love between women.

The Yuva Sena, however, seems to be taking a different view of things. Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray had once said that it was necessary to change with the times and speak in the language of the youth, and that he was happy about it.

Perhaps we'll know better next Valentine's Day.

    Arlene and Jason,

Please read properly before commenting. You guys can't even repudiate my comments properly and just talk some trash. It shows your level of incompetence and ignorance about our rich culture and knowledge. You talk as if English is a preserve of convent schools and choose to ignore the contributions from thousands of english schools run by majority community.

Arlene - You need to read some history before commenting on love, humanity etc? What happened in Europe, south America, africa where millions sufferred becoz of wars, repression and conversion imposed by a community is something that majority community in india never indulged in its entire history..so please don't talk about some ashrams or schools teaching us the majority community love, humility etc..

To Harsha Malhotra, All these convent schools have a government grant, the minority community called Christians have the grace and love to run so many schools and ashrams to meet the growing majority community, so that they can teach them to be better human beings. Take a look at the ashrams run by these wonderful nuns and priests, with love and patients they have given dignity and a reason to live to the inmates who belong to the same majority community who have been abused and left to die. And to answer your question regarding funds, we Christians love to donate and give charity to these institutes, they also receive help from so many Christian institutes based abroad.

Harsha Malhotra, Mangalore/New Delhi. With reference to your comments to Ms.Arlene and my opinion to that is - if u feed as cobra with milk definitely it will omit only poison.
If a person wears a black glass, the world looks black to that person.

Your comments are nothing but venom full of hatred with sugar coated cover. Your message in between the line is very clear.

But many parents still prefer their children to study in Christian Institutions. We live in reality not myth.

Shiv Sena live by double standards - They beat up the priests if no admission is given to their cubs in schools where English is the first language but at the same time the want Marathi as the official language to be spoken by everyone. These same cubs grow up to be spineless tigers growling at everything that moves and wanting to have the kind of fun which the rest of India’s youth is not allowed to have.

The people of these characters are called as monitor lizard.Thiland had elections in 2011 after a long 4 years military and opposition ruling through a court order. During elections the people of Thailand who opted for the slogan of 'no vote' created posters of many political candidates with a head of monitor lizard to the human body.In all this posters all other parts including the dress attire of the candidate was very close matching except the head was a ‘ Monitor Lizard’. The people of India should start this so that politicians will think twice before making a statement.

If this org, erases its initial name, then it will resemble its true color visibly .These are the same people who beat women, who happen to pass by the bars located in street sides, these are the same hooligans who burnt books, vandalized streets, destructed cinema halls and promoted liquor corners and pubs in Mangalore and Udupi, which mint crores of revenue.

Many of us are claiming/boosting & even pretending that we are good like the Tulu title "ORIYARDORI ASAL". The word of God is true. Following verse is very suitable for all of those who are claiming, boosting and pretending.
ISAIAH CHAPTER 64:6. BUT WE ARE ALL AS AN UNCLEAN THING, AND ALL OUR RIGHTEOUSNESSES ARE AS FILTHY RAGS AND WE ALL DO FADE AS A LEAF AND OUR INIQUITIES, LIKE THE WIND, HAVE TAKEN US AWAY.

These all are hypocritic behaviour of selfish politicians. The same party who is the so called 'protectors' of Indian culture who organised the Michael Jackson show during 1995/96 and minted money in croes in the name of development projects for poor & youth.Does Rock Music is Indian culture?? Where is the account of that money??Same way it happens with BD/BJP/RSS who is claiming to be the protectors of culture.Evening time if you visit the Liquor Bars in Mangalore/Udupi or so you can find them sitting together and sipping Scotch Whisky. Is this is our culture??

Those all pseudo nationalist ORG like SS/RS/BD are interested in safeguarding Indian Culture? Not @ all. These so called orgs only indulging in creating divided society. It is time for them for retrospect and taking all communities of Society together. Therefore Sene now realised with out the confidence and support of 'other'communities it is highly impossible to rule India or any state. If BJP realizes this 'bitter reality', then I think BJP has some reason to celebrate otherwise it will remain as a regional party only.
