Retired Judge's Daughter Nabbed on Graft Charge

Mumbai, Oct 14 (IANS): A retired High Court judge's daughter was remanded in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody till Oct 17 on charges of trying to accept a bribe running into lakhs of rupees, CBI officials said here Friday.A CBI counsel submitted before a Mumbai special court Thursday that the case involved Manisha Mhase, the lawyer daughter of retired High Court judge S.B. Mhase, whom CBI's anti-corruption unit booked Wednesday.

The case centres around a complaint filed before Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Mumbai, headed by the retired judge, seeking a compensation of Rs.95 lakh for breach of contract from a Pune builder Mahalaxmi Developers.

According to the first information report to the CBI Oct 7, the complainant was assured by a lawyer named Sunil Shirole that the case would be settled in his favour if he agreed to pay a percentage of the settlement.

Shirole is said to have introduced Manisha, a practising lawyer in Aurangabad, to the complainant

The CBI counsel told the court that following a trap laid, Manisha's assistants were arrested accepting bribe of Rs.30 lakh Monday, while Manisha was arrested Wednesday.

    A very sad news 4 maharastra judiciary.Personal rivelary smells behind it.Prior 2 investigation of d alledged guilt,the publication of name of justice is very offensive,which may amount an offence of Defamation. Such type of news socially declare them guilty before even investigation begins.Appears attempt to make d news colourfull.
