Mangaluru, May 6: In a car accident that occurred late on Saturday night at Babbukatte near Thokkottu, medical students who were in the car miraculously escaped with minor injuries.

A high-tension electricity pole was broken due to the impact of the collision. Locals had to bear the brunt of a power outage until Sunday afternoon.

The students, from a medical college in Deralakatte, were traveling from Thokkottu to Deralakatte when the incident happened. They attempted to overtake a tipper truck, but at the same time, the truck driver made a right turn. In an effort to avoid a collision with the truck, the car driver made a sharp left turn, causing them to lose control of the vehicle. The car hit the electricity pole, crashed into the iron fencing on the roadside, and overturned.

Other motorists passing by rushed to help and pulled the students out of the car. Fortunately, all of them sustained only minor injuries. The car was removed from the scene around noon on Sunday, and a new electricity pole was installed.

A case related to this incident has been registered at the south traffic police station in the city.

I wonder what the comments here would have been if the car was TN, AP, TS, or MH or even DL registered. That the tipper drivers is at fault?

Looking at the comments written by the readers I feel that without looking about the background of the incident they have jumped into conclusion that accident is due to reckless drive ,and the inmates in the car are from Kerala and Kerala people have lots of problem and they spend recklessly etc . It shows the prejudice towards our own brethern from Kerala .What about we Mangaloreans working in middle east and many parts of the globe and earning money from business there ? What about the feelings of locals of that countries towards us ? Overtaking is common and now the roads of Thokkotu to Deralakatte is widened and it's one way as well . So overtaking is not a fault . Is it not the fault of the tipper driver who suddenly took turn without giving indicator ? We must thank God that nothing has happened in this incident.

I think these medical institutions in DK should stop taking in students and patients from KL. Even jobs in these institutions should be given to locals; it will resolve all the issues we are facing.

Kerala doesn’t have good hospitals or medical colleges due to protests if something bad happens to patients health even if it’s not hospitals fault. They come to mangalore and Udupi for treatment and studies with their reckless driving because they also don’t have good roads over there

The students from the Southern most state Kerala are a curse to the calm district of DK. They have the money from the Gulf and show and trouble people in DK. The students are regular customers of pubs and bars. If not narcotics.

Indians, especially south Indians are spread in many cities in need of education and jobs. Life should be good and fair to all as long as they are not breaking the law.. This situation can apply to even some of us working in Bombay or elsewhere in the country.

Looking at many of the comments about we can easily come to the conclusion that many many not only cars and motorists ,but people of Kerala in general are making life very miserable for the local Dakshina Kannada people in particular and not Karnataka in general, we can easily see how they immigrated from the gulf they have lots of money and they don't have any business opportunities in Kerala so they have bought every business or shop, supermarkets etc in the area and they have taken lots of flats, land and houses in Mangalore and are fast becoming like the famous notorious Rohinginyas of Burma trying to sneak in and get into India at every possible opportunity at the cost of disrupting the peace and social fabric of the district. This should be seriously looked into by the Karnataka Government and should be raised in the assembly and in the parliament...

These Kerala (KL) students who come to Mangalore for study purpose making bring bad name our city (Kudla). I, myself experienced a leg injury due to bike riders (of KL) near Jyothi. They never wear helmet and do the triple ride in the heart of the city without any fear.
