Mangaluru: Rising mercury challenges traffic police in coastal region

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, May 4: As temperatures soar to 36.4 degrees Celsius across many districts in Karnataka, including the coastal areas, traffic police face an uphill battle regulating traffic in the sweltering heat.

Traffic officers can be seen tirelessly managing traffic at key junctions such as Nanthoor, KPT, Jyothi, Hampankatta, and Kankanady despite the scorching weather conditions. With city temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, traffic police endure prolonged exposure to the hot sun, noise, and air pollution.

In their efforts to cope with the extreme heat, traffic cops take brief breaks in the shade whenever possible after directing traffic. Many officers cover themselves fully to shield from the sun and prevent skin tanning, although it adds to the discomfort.

Despite these challenges, traffic police continue to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, demonstrating their dedication and commitment to public service even amidst harsh weather conditions.

Amidst growing concerns over the heat, there have been calls, including a viral video, for the installation of mesh at Nanthoor signal to provide relief from the scorching weather. Similar initiatives, such as the installation of green mesh at traffic signals, have been adopted by traffic police in Puducherry to combat the heat.

I have seen many traffic signals at major junction which don't seem to work and police are managing the traffic manually. What's the point of these signal lights if they are just ornaments on the road and the human intervention is required. Pressure the Relevant authority to get these signals fixed . Work smartly
