Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 4: The Takode tree, a living witness to the birthplace of Sri Kanthabare-Boodabaare in Kollur of Mulki taluk, was uprooted on Friday.

Studies have confirmed that this tree was between 800 to 1000 years old.

According to historical accounts, the Kanthabare- Boodabare twins were renowned warrior lieutenants of the Mulki Savantha kings.

Legend holds that they were born under this very tree, and after their birth, they were placed in a cradle tied to the western branch of the Takode tree.

Many trees in the city and panchayat road limits have faced unscientific main branches cutting by the MESCOM laborer's... Any tree branch cutting must be done after due consultation with forest or agriculture experts... This rainy season will pose imbalance issues to many old massive trees and pedestrians/MOTORISTS... We still remember the carpenter on bike who was buried under a massive tree while riding on Belman to Nitte highway....
