Repeated excavations plague Mangaluru city; netizens question ‘how many more’

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, May 2: The ongoing excavation in Mangaluru city has become a recurring issue, prompting netizens to question how many more times it will occur.

Concrete roads in Mangaluru city have been repeatedly excavated under the guise of drainage, pipeline, and water pipeline projects. Roads at Bejai, Anegundi road, KSRTC road, and Kodialbail road have been excavated nearly four times in the last six months, causing inconvenience to the public and shopkeepers.

Adding to the frustration, Kadri Kambala road, which was excavated twice in the last three months, has once again been dug up in the same location where work was done two months ago. This marks the fourth excavation of the same road in the last five months. Kadri Kambala road is a bustling thoroughfare connecting Bunts Hostel and the Circuit House.

Repeated excavation has severely disrupted traffic flow, especially since the road is not very wide. Digging into the middle of the concrete road further exacerbates traffic congestion.

Two months ago, the same road section was excavated and then interlocked. Now, the interlocked portion has been dug up once again. Public outcry has intensified, with concerns raised about the wastage of taxpayers' money and the repeated disruption to daily life.

Residents fear that incomplete work on sections of Bejai, Anegundi, and Kodialbail Road will turn muddy during rainy weather, posing difficulties for pedestrians trying to reach their homes.

On May 2, traffic police intervened and reprimanded workers for causing traffic congestion. They urged authorities to make arrangements for vehicular movement before commencing excavation work. Additionally, they suggested that excavation be conducted at night when traffic is lighter, and concrete work be done during the day.

This is a really major nuisance thing happening in city . I condemn it , totally unplanned and unorganised working and digging up the roads and footpaths . It is causing danger to kids and senior citizens. In bendorewell near my house they are digging up saying some cable laying . It is not done properly taking one week time and it is bursting some sandas pipe causing huge smell and trouble to all residents . Some people are slipping in it also . After complaint only they are cleaning it up . Near mannagudda also some nonsense pipe laying happening all the time. Large open pits are there and in that water logging happens, animals does potty and it is health hazard. Municipalities must look into it and properly plan the developments works , all this under so called smart city of Modi , still nothing happened in so many years except digging and re digging

Actually Udupi and Mangaluru cities need Utility ducts. These ducts can carry pipleines cables and even electrical wires. But no one is demanding it and suggesting it. Do you know in China coastal cities are economic powerhouses. But here udupi and mangaluru are struggling due to no proper urban planning. First of all we need to hire a consultant firm and prepared a master urban plan with a proper city centre. We are not seriously focused on our infra. Roads are concretised heavily instead of Asphalt which is much more easily recyclable. Also how many green building do we have. If we continue this we will lose out from becoming major cities.

Those who won in election, it is not as if they won for the sake of development. So it is wrong to ask for development. Kindly adjust and be satisfied with love jihad matters. Even now Modi has stopped asking for votes based on development. So he is now busy talking about mangalsutra, vote jihad. Only UT khader was voted for development. So u can see the progress in ullal constituency. So many colleges, so many students coming there. So many jobs for local. Land prices have improved.

Agreed. Tar roads are better , they have to be resurfaced every year which can be done at nighttime so that there is minimal inconvenience. Ducts have to be placed on either side with interconnections for utilities like underground electric cables, cable tv,drainage watersuppy etc. This is what Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had done for Ahmedabad. He was the first mayor of Ahmedabad, power outage occurred only 5 times in 50 years that I was there, and rarely I observed road digging.

Smart city project is at full display, why crib?. To swindle crores of tax payers money, this is the easiest, way. Its unprecedented development for many, as they keep seeing the same JCB's, excavators, drilling and filling, for months and years, at the same places.
