Udupi, Apr 19: During a press conference at the District Congress Bhawan, K J George, the energy minister and in-charge of the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, expressed concerns over the recent surge in false promises and caste conflicts in the region, attributing these issues to the BJP's governance.

George highlighted the BJP's failure to meet its commitments, stating that the party had only fulfilled 50 out of its 600 promises. He questioned the economic policies of the current government, pointing out the absence of expected double-digit GDP growth despite the demographic advantage of a youthful population.

Reflecting on historical leadership, George praised former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his administrative skills but criticized current leadership strategies involving Narendra Modi, whom he accused of engaging in family politics while maintaining alliances with figures like Deve Gowda and Yediyurappa.

In his remarks, George also honoured Sonia Gandhi for her sacrifice in declining the position of Prime Minister, positioning it as a significant contrast to the moral questions he raised about the BJP's criticism of the Congress’s 70-year contribution to the nation.

Furthermore, George rebuked BJP MP and minister Shobha Karandlaje for her absence at the KDP meeting and mocked her frequent travels by labelling her a ‘touring talkie’. He hinted at political instability within the local council, anticipating changes in opposition leadership.

The press conference also included comments on local political dynamics, where George confidently predicted a sweeping victory for Congress, aiming to secure all 28 seats in the state. George concluded by addressing a statement made by minister Byrathi Suresh, advising the public to seek clarifications directly from Suresh regarding the context of his remarks.

Vinayakumar Sorake, working president of KPCC, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, district Congress president, Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu, working president Udupi district Congress, district Congress general secretary Mahabala Kunder, district Congress vice president Shabir Ahmed and others were present.
