SC urges EC to probe BJP's alleged extra votes in Kasargod EVM mock polling

New Delhi, Apr 18 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Thursday orally asked the Election Commission (EC) to look into media reports suggesting that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) erroneously registered votes in favour of the BJP during mock polling in Kerala’s Kasaragod.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta asked senior advocate Maninder Singh, representing EC, to look into the issue raised by advocate Prashant Bhushan.

Amid the ongoing hearing on pleas seeking directions to the poll body to tally every vote cast through EVMs with Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips, Bhushan drew the attention of the apex court towards a news article published on Tuesday where agents of Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates in Kerala alleged that BJP's lotus was getting extra votes during the commissioning of the machines for the polling.

At this, Justice Khanna told ECI’s counsel: “Mr. (Maninder) Singh, please check this up.”

The top court is hearing the public interest litigations (PILs) seeking a direction to the EC to mandatorily cross-verify the votes cast in EVMs with VVPAT as opposed to the current practice of counting VVPAT slips of five randomly selected polling stations in each assembly constituency.

..No, there is no direction from SC to investigate as some commentators are already started EVM/EVM...when, Mr Bhushan (as usual same guy with hundreds of PIL ) cited a news report on mock poll results in Kerala, where reportedly extra votes were recorded for the BJP.. The court asked EC to explain this. The Election Commission said that the report is completely false & fake.. matter stopped there..SC never said investigate, as it knows unverified reports can not be believed..SC chided Mr.Bhushan for come up with so many conspiracy theory ..

Electoral Bonds is also a conspiracy as per you Ranga. Anything against BJP is conspiracy despite the evidence. Prashant Bushan is working for the people of this country, not for any party. He will do the same if Congress comes back to power.

EVM tampering is act of treason. People who indulge in such practices must be sent to gallows. Simple and straight. If credibility of EVM are questioned, EC must come out with credible and irrefutable evidence to prove its reliabilty. SC is also saying the same. So, why there is doubt? When casted vote for opposition candidate symbol, there is recorded evidence that vote still goes to lotus symbol. This is not one-off case, its repeated many times. Vote polled in booths vs Vote accounted in EVMs are numbered high, as if some ghosts came to cast votes in strong rooms. This implies there is clear sign of tampering. EC must come out with credible methodology to catch and punish the guilty.

Instead of vote counting done in one place after several days, counting should be done on same spot where voting taking place on same day after 5 pm and record it. it may take them to count merely 2 to 3 hours in one booth!!

it is very clear that the blue j pigs in coordination with EC are trying to manipulate the evms to come back to power...but there is some judge or judges in SC still favouring ballot paper elections and democratic india...hope their decision will prevail...anyway if blue j pigs win even one seat in Kerala that would be clear rigging....

If 100% Paper verification is done, surely BJP will not cross 150 seats. The SC knows very well that BJP is cheating Hence in the interest of public there should be 100% paper verification needed
