Mangaluru: Thief arrested, valuables worth Rs 3 lac confiscated

Mangaluru, Apr 13: Within 24 hours of a theft occurring in a house near the railway tracks at Munchoor, the police successfully apprehended the thief responsible and recovered stolen items including gold ornaments, silverware, and cash worth Rs 3 lac.

The accused, Jambiah (24), a resident of Hosakote, was arrested by the police. Additionally, the car and mobile phone used in the commission of the crime were confiscated.

The victim, Kalleshwara Shekappa Nelavadi, a daily wage laborer who has been working in Mangaluru for the past 13 years, and his wife had left for work as usual. Meanwhile, his mother-in-law, Basamma, had stepped out to purchase groceries. Upon her return, she discovered that the lock on the front door had been broken, and valuables amounting to Rs 2.5 lac in gold ornaments, silverware, and Rs. 50,000 in cash, which had been kept in the cupboard in the hall, were missing.

Promptly initiating the arrest operation, the police apprehended the accused near Nandikoor of Padubidri.
