Bengaluru bus conductor arrested for assaulting female passenger

Bengaluru, Mar 27 (IANS): The Karnataka Police have arrested a bus conductor of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) for allegedly assaulting a female passenger.

The arrested conductor has been identified as Honnappa Nagappa Agasar.

According to the police, the victim, 24-year-old Tanzula Ismail Peerzade, in her complaint said that the incident took place on Tuesday when she was travelling from Bilekahalli to Shivajinagar on a BMTC bus.

Tanzula said that the conductor refused to issue her a ticket despite her repeated requests.

"Subsequently, I requested the driver to stop the bus near a police station to file a complaint... the conductor approached me, hurled abuses, grabbed my clothes, pulled my hair, and slapped me. When I attempted to record the incident on my mobile phone, he snatched it from me and threw it away," the complainant said.

Tanzula further claimed that the conductor also threatened her.

Following her complaint, the police arrested the accused conductor. However, police sources said that the accused shared a different account of the incident.

The conductor claimed that he asked for the victim's Aadhar card to issue her a free ticket. However, she did not show her Aadhar card even after two stops. "When I requested her to either show the Aadhar card or purchase a ticket, the woman became furious, engaged in an argument, and slapped him first," the accused told the police.

Police have registered a case under IPC Sections 354, 323, 506, and 509. They are conducting an investigation to verify the statements of the accused and the victim.

Meanwhile, a video of the incident captured by a co-passenger went viral on social media.

Notably, under the Shakthi Guarantee Scheme, women from Karnataka can travel free of cost on BMTC and KSRTC buses by showing a valid government identity card.

As per many comments lady was wrong of not showing her ID and over that slapping conductor.Sure as conductor was already angry over her slapping and not obliging to show her card, must have returned back ,what she supposed to get.Although it was wrong from conductor to slap a woman when he is in duty.Should have controlled himself and file a complain.Woman must have thought she has the power?WRONG :One has to respect conductor too,as he is whole day on work and go begging for a card or ticket etc.Slapping a person is a very bad habit either man or even women. You self loose your respect. She too should be punished for slapping.Dont lat go scot free.

What is wrong in asking Aadhar, It is duty of this minorty lady to show the Aadhar also show her face as well. The govt people need to ask such ladies to show their face as well other wise nothing should be given to them. This is India and not any GCC to not show the identity.

Whether bhakt or ghulam, asking for Id. of free riders is part of his duty. Otherwise pay the fare and take your ticket.

Just see video circulated in social media. Its clear woman slapped conductor at first after so much verbal abuse by her to the conductor. First conductor was calm but this repeated shouting and in the end slapping conductor is make him very hyper. In return he returned slaps what she actually deserve to be treated. Treat conductor as human being and not your household worker to abuse. Just taking advantage of free bus ride without providing proper ID or document is not right in first place.

Don't invoke your usual communal filth here. Every female passenger is expected to show her ID first (without asking) if she wants a free ride. Other wise pay for the ticket. It is well known that only female residents of the state are eligible for free travel.

The Video circulated shows first woman slapped conductor in exchange of words but return from conductor is so brutal and conductor should have some restrain from such anger. May be he is already inflated by shouting of woman abuse. Requesting ID or Aadhar card to issue free ticket is it a crime. Anyway now legal proceedings are started.
