Bangladesh Recalls Shahadat for Windies Series

Dhaka, Oct 1 (IANS/CMC): Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selectors have recalled seamer Shahadat Hossain and called up uncapped all-rounder Elias Sunny but axed batsman Junaid Siddique for the limited overs series against the West Indies starting here next week.

Shahadat was named in an 18-man squad for the three One-Day Internationals while Elias is part of a 14-man unit for the one-off Twenty20 International.

Bangladesh will also host the West Indies in two Tests in the tour Oct 7-Nov 2.

Shahadat last played for Bangladesh on the tour of England last year when he was inconsistent despite a five-wicket haul in the first Test at Lord's.

The experienced 25-year-old has already played 29 Tests and 46 ODIs.

Elias, meanwhile, has gained favour with selectors after a good run in the recently concluded BCB Cup.

"Sunny is someone we wanted to try because he has been doing well in the Premier League and also recently in the BCB Cup and the four-dayer," chief selector Akram Khan said.

Junaid, however, has not been so fortunate. He played the last of his 54 ODIs against Zimbabwe last month but has not been retained.

Following the T20I Oct 11, Shahadat, Sohrawardi Shuvo, Shahriar Nafees and Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury will join the squad to form the ODI unit.

Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim will lead both sides.

The West Indies will play two tour matches in Fatullah Oct 7 and 9 before facing the hosts in the opening international.

Squads:

T20I - Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Mahmudullah (vice captain), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Ashraful, Shakib Al Hasan, Alok Kapali, Naeem Islam, Nasir Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Elias Sunny, Rubel Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Nazmul Hossain.
