Mangaluru, Mar 11: The district-level review committee (DLRC) meeting for Dakshina Kannada was convened under the chairmanship of zilla panchayat CEO Dr Anandh K, IAS here at Netravati Hall of Zilla Panchayat office, Mangaluru.

During the meeting, the lead district officer, briefed the house about the achievements and progress of the district's banking sector.

Dr Anandh K expressed concern over banks not being able to achieve the targets in enrolling people to PMJJBY, PMSBY and Swanidhi schemes.

He said, "Targets are given to reach branches and I feel that banks have not taken this seriously. A lot of data is available and Swanidhi scheme is only focusing on a particular section. Proper planning in matters of target population should be approached and if targets were given long back then why do I always have to listen to people saying that they will be achieved in the next term."

He further added that "These schemes are important and in an 8-month period 24,000 customers have enrolled which means these schemes are popular. The banks need to do the work of making their customers understand about the benefits of these schemes. Your customers are your target audiences. They should be given information and many branches have done very well and we see a lot of improvement and a lot can be done."

In his closing remarks, Anandh K said, "We have achieved the targets and under government schemes and under PM Swanidhi all the pending applications should be attended to as it is not a good sign. Similarly there should be no rejection of applications under these schemes and if done proper reasons should be given. Financial security and banking frauds have been rising and these things should be taught to people and awareness should also be creating for saving money from scams and online frauds."

Kavitha Shetty, LDCM, LDO, DK said "Total business in Dakshina Kannada as on December, 31 2023 stood at Rs 1,15,793.81 crore With a year-on-year growth of 15.73%, With the total number of branches in DK as on December 31 being 646, deposits stood at Rs 67523.90 crore recording a growth of 11.32%, Advances stood at Rs 48269.91 crore. Disbursements for the agriculture sector for the December quarter 2023-24 was Rs 11474.72 crore achieving a 132.05% of the annual target of Rs 8690 crore."

Thanu Nanjappa, manager, FIDD RBI emphasised on digital banking and stated that banks in DK should ensure that at least one product should be digital.
