T&T Footballer Edwards Faces Jail Time

London, Sep 28 (IANS/CMC): Discarded Trinidad and Tobago footballer Carlos Edwards could spend time in jail after he was allegedly caught driving illegally.

Edwards was charged on Monday for driving while disqualified and driving without insurance after police stopped his car in the south-east England community of Kesgrave.

"We can confirm that Carlos Edwards was arrested for driving while disqualified this morning (Monday)," said a spokeswoman for Ipswich Town Football Club, for whom he plays in the English League Championship.

"We understand there are significant mitigating circumstances but this is now a matter for the police and we will be making no further comment until due process is complete."

The 32-year-old Edwards, a member of the 2006 Soca Warriors World Cup squad, was given an automatic one-year ban from the roads and fined 7,000 pounds sterling after admitting to a slew of driving offences in June.

Edwards is set to appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court in Ipswich Oct 10.
