Bengaluru, Mar 4: The success of Congress government’s five guarantees has benefited a record number of 4.5 crore people and has scared the opposition BJP, said chief minister Siddaramaiah and accused the BJP leaders for ignoring development and concentrating only on emotive issues.

Addressing a massive public function at Nelamangala in the city outskirts on Monday after layingg the foundation stone for the Vrishabhavathy Lift Irrigation Scheme to benefit Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapur and Tumakuru districts and also several developmental works, he said the BJP leaders are insulting the crores of beneficiaries of the guarantees by their constant criticism of the guarantees itself.

Siddaramaiah attacked the previous BJP regime for its corruption and commission at the cost of development and wanted to know why the BJP regime did not do anything to address the drinking water and irrigation works when it was in power. BJP believed in raking up emotive issues of caste and religion without bothering about development, he said.

The Congress government believes in delivering on its promises and solving the problems of people. Food, shelter, health, education and water are our key issues, he said attacking BJP for its espousal of religion and god and attempts to polarize voters to win elections.

The chief minister said the government is implementing Rs 3,000 crore on K C Valley and N N Valley and spending on the Vrishabhavathy project at a cost of Rs 2,240 crore to permanently solve the drinking water prolems of  Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkaballapur and Tumakuru districts. In the first phase, 70 tanks will be filled with water and thereby the water table will increase so farmers will be benefited.

He said the BJP is insulting and denigrating the poor, who are beneficiaries of Anna Bhagya and other guarantees. The poor families will revolt against the BJP for insulting them, he said pointing out that the Modi government created all sorts of obstacles for the guarantees.

‘’For us serving the people and programmes for their welfare is more important,’’ he said.
