Indian Girls Win Bronze in U-18 Asia Cup Hockey


Bangkok, Sep 25 (IANS): India defeated defending champions South Korea 2-0 in the bronze medal play-off at the girls Under-18 Asia Cup hockey tournament here Sunday.

The goal scorers for India were Anupa Barla (43rd minute) and Navjot Kaur (68th).

The match was played under bright sunshine with India dominating the proceedings.

The Indian strikers, led by skipper Poonam Rani, Neha Goel, Navjot Kaur and Anupa Barla, exhibited classic skills pushing the Korean defenders constantly.

The Indian mid-fielders Deep Grace Ekka, Balvinder Kaur Mehra and Nikki Pradhan constantly fed the forwards with well-measured and accurate passes.

Deep defenders Jaspreet Kaur and Sandeep Kaur, alongwith goalkeeper Bigan Soy, stood out strongly to deny the Korean forwards any space in the Indian striking circle.
