Dubai: Sunshine Warriors emerge champions in 48th mega tournament

Dubai, Feb 23: In the 48th Mega tournament organized by Sunshine Cricket Club on Sunday, February 18, Sunshine Warriors team led by Mubarak emerged as champions.

President of the club Alfred inaugurated the tournament after national anthems of both UAE and India were sung. The trophy was handed over to the president by Ahmed, captain of last year’s champions.

Five teams participated in the tournament that is held for the members of the club. In the tournament that saw closely finishing matches, three teams got four points each with two victories and entered the finals.

Ninjas team led by Arshad entered the final directly with three wins and one defeat in the four matches of league stage. The Warriors team led by Mubarak got humiliating defeats in their first two matches. However, they rose like phoenix and got huge victories over Challengers and Hawks in the next two matches and entered the final round with good run rate.

In the final, Warriors batted first after they lost the toss and accumulated 41 runs in five overs due to the splendid batting performance by Sabi and Sufiyan in the stipulated five overs. The Ninjas team which chased the 41 runs showed good batting in the initial overs. However, Warriors organized vicious bowling attack and got the Ninjas all out for just 36 runs, thus winning the match by five runs.

Sufiyan, who gave stellar performance throughout the tournament was adjudged man of the match. The collective effort of Riyaz, Taufeeq, Sufiyan, Sabi, Mustafa Razi and Ashraf helped he Warriors to emerge as champions. Captain Mubarak and players of the team expressed their gratitude to the celebrities of coastal Karnataka for extending their support to the Warriors team.

In the league matches Anwar, Asif, Narayan, Arshad, Naveen, Taufeeq, Raviraj, Adil, Mustaf and Colin won the man of the match awards.

Muneer was declared as the best bowler of the tournament, while Mazhar got the best batsman award and Anwar was adjudged as the best all rounder.

In the meantime, Anwar got the best bowler award of current year, Narayan as best batsman and Praveen Nio Pharma as the best all rounder.

All chief sponsors and members who served the club in the current year were felicitated with mementos at the end of the programme.

The programme was compered by Sufiyan, treasurer of the club.
