Ajman: The White Coat Ceremony- 2011 Welcomes New Batch at GMU

Ajman, Sep 24: Gulf Medical University (GMU) welcomed the new batch students of MBBS, DMD, BPT, PHARM D ceremoniously into the health profession by holding the White Coat Ceremony- 2011  here at the University campus recently.

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of the chief guest Dr Wyatt R Hume, provost of UAE University, Al Ain along with chairman of Ruler’s Court H E Sheikh Dr Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi.

In his inspirational speech Dr Wyatt R Hume emphasized on the importance of the White Coat Ceremony and congratulated the new batch of students for celebrating the important event in a solemn and yet in such a joyful way.

He then urged the students that it is extremely important to care for the patients, families and the community and by caring the patients they will be doing God’s work.

He added that their primary motivation should be to care the patients and not the money. He concluded by advising the students to embrace science as hard as they can, so that they would have the ability to question, to evaluate, to advance and use it to the fullest for serving the mankind.
 
The founder president of GMU Thumbay Moideen and the faculty members of the University welcomed a total of 147 students newly admitted to the MBBS, BPT, DMD and PHARM D Programs and conferred the “White Coats” as a symbol of their entry into their chosen professions.

The White Coat Ceremony, a highlight of the orientation process, signifies the student’s commitment to the healthcare profession and its responsibilities and obligations. New students cloaked in their first white coats, collectively recited the GMU Honour Code.

The new batch assumed the mantle of their profession in a meaningful ritual before an audience of mentors, family and friends. The ceremony is designed to impress upon the new comers the significance and symbolism of the white coat.

H E Sheikh Dr Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi together with Thumbay Moideen presented a special momento to Dr Hume as a gesture of goodwill.

Prof Gita Ashok Raj, provost of the GMU welcomed the gathering.
