Sharjah: United Loretto Friends gear up to host ‘Konkan Udkana’ on Feb 11

Sharjah, Feb 5: The countdown has begun for the most-awaited Mangalurean Catholic Konkani-speaking family fest, ‘Konkan Udkana’ on February 11, at Wanderers Sports Club, Sharjah.

United Loretto Friends (ULF), an upcoming dynamic Mangalorean association built by like-minded youth of Mangalurean and Udupi diocese with the motto ‘Unity and Service’ has taken the initiative to organize the fest. The scintillating event is all set to witness scores of Mangalurean diaspora residing in Dubai and other parts of the UAE come together and be a part of the cultural spectacle, upholding a spirit of unity and competitiveness in the home away from home land.

The event is set to entail fun-filled fest games throughout the day, as Dubai’s well-known ‘Band Open High’ will keep the guests entertained with Konkani and Bollywood songs. Dubai’s one and only DJ Norman will orchestrate the beats, while ‘Team Pili Nalike Dubai’ has been roped in to perform the evergreen Mangalurean tiger dance as the special attraction of the day.

The fest games have already seen the registration of 22 teams, each comprising 16 players (8 men and women), who will face off to lay hands on the overall trophy. The games lined up include penalty shootouts, task relay, human wheel race, slow cycling and tug of war. Winners and runners-up of each individual game will earn points, and ultimately, the team with the most points will be crowned ULF champions for the year 2024.

The event will be hosted by the dynamic duo of MC Roshan and MC Ninet Moras promising lively ambience for the entire day. Various social media and marketing campaigns have been conducted, and notable social media influencers have already expressed their support.

Entry to the event is free, and moreover everyone attending the event also stands a chance of winning spot prizes, whereas one lucky winner will take home an Apple iPhone as part of the lucky dip series. Kids’ games will also be a part of the package for children aged 3-14 within their respective categories.

ULF team, led by the dynamic leadership of president Rupesh Pinto and the rest of the 22 core committee members have requested that Mangalureans turn up in huge numbers and make the event a grand success.
