Poonam Pandey says she faked 'death' to initiate talk on cervical cancer

Mumbai, Feb 3 (IANS): After the fake news of her death made headlines, controversial actress Poonam Pandey has come out and said that she faked her demise as she wanted to ignite a conversation around cervical cancer.

Poonam took to Instagram, where she shared a video and spoke about why this was needed.

“Hi everyone it's Poonam. I am sorry to those whom I have hurt. My intention is to shock everyone into the conversation that we are not talking enough about cervical cancer.”

“Yes, I faked my demise.”

She added: “Extreme I know. But suddenly we all are talking about cervical cancer. This disease silently takes your life and this disease needs the spotlight urgently. I am proud of what my death news has been able to achieve.”

Poonam shared another video and captioned it: “I feel compelled to share something significant with you all - I am here, alive. Cervical Cancer didn't claim me, but tragically, it has claimed the lives of thousands of women due to lack of knowledge on how to tackle this disease. Unlike some other cancers, Cervical Cancer is entirely preventable.”

“The key lies in the HPV vaccine and early detection tests. We have the means to ensure no one loses their life to this disease. Let's empower one another with critical awareness and ensure every woman is informed about the steps to take.”

“Together, let's strive to put an end to the devastating impact of the disease and bring #DeathToCervicalCancer.”

On Friday, news about Poonam succumbing to cancer at 32 made the rounds after a statment was put on her Instagram.

The statement read: “This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request for privacy, while we remember her fondly for all that we shared.”

Poonam made her Bollywood debut in 2013 with the film 'Nasha', 'GST - Galti Sirf Tumhari' (2017), and a few other films and television serials.

In 2011, she grabbed headlines by promising to strip for the Indian cricket team if it bagged the Cricket World Cup that year.

Cervical cancer is prevalent among women with multiple partners only. Seems this girl under the guise of cervical cancer awareness is too smart to seduce and deceive. Knowing thoroughly well that it is only the pornographic industry which is a milking pot and rewards handsomely, she chose to go that way for quick bucks. I remember in one such article on rediff.com she had offered to go nude and wished to have sexual intercourse with every single cricketer of the Indian team if they brought the 2011 World Cup after their return from overseas. Unfortunately, even though we won, that didn't happen as she was smacked black and blue by her mother.

Faking one’s death for cheap PR is an absolute disgrace. Already the online media is blamed for fake news and this adds to the rot. She is playing with the sentiments of thousands of patients for cheap publicity. If someone had made a statement which hurt the sentiments of few political scoundrels, the person would have been behind the bars. This is hurting only the sentiments of some unfortunate patients and the person making the statement is a celebrity. So there won’t be any action. Let us understand that this is same person who was ready to strip, if India wins the World Cup. Utterly disgusting is the fact that some of the educated supporting this act. Does ends justify the means? The lady should be behind bars for fake news.

Unpleasant stunt of publicity in the name of Cancer Awareness. She has 1.3M followers on Instagram, would have done awareness campaign in ethical manner. It may be hard to believe, there are people on social media who applaud her way of fake stunt on cancer awareness !

After 2014, people have realised that only lies and fekugiri can attract the attention of the most intellectual and educated person and fool them. Now some educated people will say that she did a good job in creating awareness. Last best example of this was during demonetisation where educated people used to say that it was a bold decision. There is no common sense among such people that there is a law in our country and 65% people of our country who don't get 3 times meal don't even know or care who Poonam pandey is
