Air traveller arrested for bomb joke in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 30 (IANS): An air traveller, who joked that he is carrying a bomb in his bag when the staff was conducting security check in the aircraft, has been arrested in Bengaluru.

The arrested person is identified as 48-year-old Saju K Kumaran, a private company employee.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when Kumaran was to leave from Bengaluru to Kochi in Kerala on an Air India flight.

The accused on board the aircraft reportedly did not allow the staff to check his bag, saying that he was carrying a bomb in it, after which he was deboarded. Sleuths of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducted a thorough check and took Kumaran to the Bengaluru Airport police station.

Kumaran was traveling to Kerala to visit his sister's house as her new-born child had died during delivery, sources said, adding that he was upset with the additional security checks inside the flight after seating.

The accused said that he had asked the satff: "Do you think, I am carrying a bomb or knife."

A case under Section 505 (for issuing statements conducive to public mischief) of IPC has been filed against him.

The police are verifying his claims and investigating the case.

Security department has turned into a Fool's paradise (many may not be even able to comprehend what the passengers are trying to express); will any guy carrying something forbidden declare that he is carrying it? Just consider the mental agony the passenger was going through to rush to meet his grieving sister!!Just want a reason to trap someone; undoubtedly this guy will have to shell a lot of 💰 in various procedures to clear himself..... anything is possible in the highly corrupt third world places. The above is a very personal opinion.

There was no need for such treatment, was the CISF personnel deaf to properly hear wt the other person said? And in no way the statement was joke. Asking " Do u think I'm carrying a bomb? " Doesn't sound like joke to me. For which CISF personnel could have calmly replied " No, sir I'm just doing my duty and i need to check ur bag" No need for such harsh action on the passenger

Invariably all passengers are treated like prisoners at Airport. May not be because they dont trust the passengers or luggage scanners or rude CISF . But Airlines have surplus staff doing nothing. So even after the security boarding pass scan , again boarding pass is checked at 2-3 places , which doesn't guarantee if somebody else travelling in the same boarding pass. ! No doubt why airlines are incurring loss.
