Mangaluru, Jan 29: In response to the tragic explosion that claimed three lives in an incendiary manufacturing plant in Kudthyaru village, Beltangady Taluk, additional district magistrate Dr Anand K has issued an order to implement precautionary measures. The directive mandates the temporary suspension of licenses for all fire medicine manufacturing units across Dakshina Kannada (DK) district.

Under the Explosives Act of 1984 and Rule 107 of Explosive Rules 2008, licenses in Form LE-1 were previously issued to explosives manufacturing units to regulate firecracker businesses in authorized manufacturing units within the district. This aligns with the valid Supreme Court order and government directives and guidelines, aimed at preventing fire hazards during the manufacture of firecrackers. The temporary suspension is issued for a re-examination of the aforementioned order.

With immediate effect, the district magistrate has curtailed the powers conferred under Act 40 of the Explosives Regulations, 2008 for all incendiary manufacturing units within Dakshina Kannada district. This suspension will remain in effect until further orders.

Dr Anand K has directed the sub-divisional officers of Mangaluru and Puttur to rigorously enforce this order.
