Ganesh Procession: One Dead, Six Hurt as Balcony Collapses


Mumbai, Sep 11 (IANS): One person was killed and six others injured as a balcony collapsed during a Ganesh procession here Sunday, the final day of the 11-day festival, an official said.

The accident happened in Bharatmata area where devotees were trying to get a glimpse of the elephant god of the famous Lalbaugcha Raja mandal.

The people were taken to KEM Hospital.

"One man was brought dead while six others were brought injured. Two girls are critical," a hospital official told IANS.

"We have got calls from many others who are on their way to the hospital owing to injuries," the official added.

The balcony could not bear the weight of the more than 50 devotees, standing in the balcony to get a glimpse of the Ganesh idol.

    I was seeing casuality during deewali. Ganesh chathurti not any better... Anyways wishing you all safe festival.
