Mangaluru, Dec 5: Dakshina Kannada (DK) district Congress election in charge Madhu Bangarappa held discussion with district leaders of Congress with regards to the suitable candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha (LS) elections.

Names of B Ramanatha Rai, Harish Kumar, Vinaya Kumar Sorake, Rakshit Shivaram, Inayat Ali, Iftikar, Kanachoor Monu, Padmaraj and Vivek Raj Poojary were mentioned by the leaders.

Vivek Raj Poojary, who was the coordinator for Chikkamagaluru legislative council constituencies, which was the fort of the BJP and in which Congress won all the five seats, is in the forefront as a Lok Sabha ticket aspirant from DK.

Names of several people are in the list. Dakshina Kannada district president and MLC Harish Kumar, Congress leader and former minister Abhay Chandra Jain, KPCC vice president Manjunatha Bhandary, former MLC Ivan D’Souza, chief secretary Mithun Rai, former MLA J R Lobo, U K Monu, Inayat Ali, Rakshit Shivaram, Krishnappa G, G A Bawa, Gangadhara Gowda, Ibrahim Kodijaal, Mamata Gatty and B Ibrahim presented their opinion to Madhu Bangarappa.

Many among the block Congress office bearers and party leaders asked Madhu Bangarappa to provide ticket to candidate from Billava or Bunt community. Some expressed that minority should be given a chance. Iftikar’s name is in the forefront among candidates mentioned for minority. Some said that new face and youth candidate will make it easier to get votes.

Senior leaders of the party said that opinion is being gathered as per the instructions of KPCC president. But final decision will be done by high command.

Harish Kumar, president, Dakshina Kannada district Congress said, “Madhu Bangarappa, Dakshina Kannada district Congress election in-charge has held discussion with leaders and block Congress office bearers on personal front. He will submit the same to state Congress committee.”
