Udupi: Inter-district burglar arrested in gold jewellery theft case

Udupi, Nov 28: The Udupi police have successfully arrested Tauseef Ahmed Mallar (34), an inter-district house thief involved in the theft of gold jewelry from a residence in the city.

According to the complaint, the burglary occurred in Badagubettu village between 9 am and 2:45 pm on June 30, 2023, during the absence of residents. The thief gained entry by breaking the back door and proceeded to steal various items, including a 40-gram gold mangalsutra chain, an approximately 16-gram gold chain, a 12-gram gold necklace, four gold rings weighing around 16 grams, a gold earring with an accessory weighing about 6 grams, and Rs 15,500 in cash. Additionally, a gold necklace weighing approximately 32 grams, a pair of gold bangles weighing about 24 grams, another pair of gold bangles weighing 16 grams, a pair of gold earrings weighing 6 grams, a gold ring weighing 4 grams, another pair of gold earrings weighing 16 grams, and four pieces of gold jewelry were stolen. The estimated total weight of the stolen gold jewelry was 188 grams, valued at Rs 8,46,000. Including the cash, the estimated total value of stolen assets amounted to Rs 8,61,500. A case was duly registered at the Udupi City Police Station based on the complaint.

Inspector Manjappa D R, PSI Eranna Shiragumpi, Bharatesh Kankanwadi, Puneeth Kumar, and staff members Satish Belle, Chetan, Anand, S Shivakumar, Riaz Ahmed, Vishwanath Shetty, Kiran, Hemanth Kumar, Obalesh, and Rajendra played crucial roles in the arrest operation. The team successfully apprehended the accused, Tauseef Ahmed, from Mallar village.

Meanwhile, gold jewelry worth Rs 9,00,500, weighing 155 grams, stolen by the accused in this case, has been successfully recovered. It is worth noting that Tauseef Ahmed has previously been involved in cases of daylight burglary registered in Bantwal, Panambur, and Bajpe areas.
