Vettel Wins Belgian Grand Prix, Sutil Seventh

Spa-Franchorchamps (Belgium), Aug 29 (IANS): Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel won the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix from pole position here Sunday while Force India's Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta improved upon their grid positions to finish seventh and eleventh respectively.

Vettel crossed the chequered flag in 1:26:44.893 to win his seventh race of the season and further extend his lead in the Drivers' Championship. Mark Webber made it a 1-2 for Red Bull by finishing 3.5 seconds behind Vettel. McLaren's Jenson Button was third.

The 44-lap race took place in dry conditions and that suited Force India, which had an ordinary qualifying Saturday.

Sutil, who started 15th on the grid, gained eight places by the end of the race to collect six crucial points. The German was helped by Lewis Hamilton's accident on lap 13 when he was running sixth and was able to close the gap on the frontrunners. Sutil, however, lost his place to Mercedes' Michael Schumacher, who eventually finished fifth.

"After starting P15 we have to be very happy with our seventh place today," said Sutil.

"It was an exciting race with lots of action, but we had a good strategy and made the right calls at the right time. When the safety car came out I pitted straight away, which helped me because I made up a couple of places. I came out in sixth and after that I only lost one position to Schumacher, who was on the soft tyre and faster than me."

Di Resta also did well to finish just outside the points bracket after starting from 18th on the grid.

"The pace of the car was quite strong, but I was a bit unlucky with the safety car (lap 13) because the priority had to go to the leading car (Adrian) and I dropped behind the Williams. Without that I could have probably been ahead of Maldonado (Pastor)," said Paul di Resta.

Force India have now managed a top-10 result in the last three races, further extending their lead over closest rivals Toro Rosso in the Constructor's Championship. The Silverstone based team is at seventh place with 32 points, ahead of Toro Rosso which has 22 points.
