Mangaluru, Nov 8: "It is because of the erstwhile BJP government's policy that people are suffering and are facing scarcity of sand as it was illegally being extracted when the party was ruling the state," said district Congress committee president and MLC Harish Kumar.

Addressing news persons here at Congress Bhavan on Wednesday, November 8, he said, "MLA Kamath should remember that sand was extracted illegally in the name of dredging and exports to other districts of the state by the BJP government."

He questioned as to why the BJP government had failed to frame a policy for sand extraction when they were in power and help the people to get sand easily.

"It was Oscar Fernandes who helped the people to get sand easily and at an affordable price when he was the union minister by relaxing CRZ norms. The BJP representatives had claimed that they will provide a load of sand at a cost of Rs 2,000. But, it has not become a realiy," Kumar said.

"Has MLA Kamath met Prime Minister to discuss the shortage of sand? The BJP governments misappropriated funds released for various development works. There is no development from the BJP government." Kumar charged.

He also alleged that the people were suffering due to traffic problem at Nanthoor. Moreover, the flyover at Pumpwell was built unscientifically as water gets clogged there, he said.

"Congress government has not discriminated with regards to release of funds. Now, why do they want funds for development. During elections they sought votes for the BJP on the basis of Hindutva and Love Jihad." Kumar said.

Slamming MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Harish Kumar said "MLA is lacking in knowledge."

"Why has the BJP government failed to release funds for drought-hit taluks of Karnataka," Harish Kumar questioned.
