India Finish Eighth in World Team Squash


Paderborn (Germany), Aug 28 (IANS): India finished eighth in the men's World squash team championship after losing 0-2 to the United States in the playoffs, while second ranked Egypt overcame top seeds England 2-1 in the final here Saturday.

India lost both their singles as Julian Illingworth subdued National champion Saurav Ghosal 11-9, 2-11, 13-11, 11-7 in 50 minutes in the first singles while Todd Harrity took 51 minutes to down Mahesh Mangaonkar 6-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-2, 11-5. The third singles between Christopher Gordon and Harinder Pal Sandhu was withdrawn.

Australia defeated France 2-1 to take the bronze medal while Malaysia beat Italy 2-1 to finish fifth in the championship.
