Convict's body goes missing from state-run hospital in Kolkata

Kolkata, Oct 26 (IANS): In a shocking incident, the body of a convict has gone missing from the mortuary of the state-run S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata.

The family members of the victim, identified as Bablu Pollee, have claimed that he was first beaten to death in custody and his body parts were sold.

But Kolkata Police have claimed that someone had claimed the body by mistake and performed the last rites.

Hospital authorities are yet to comment on the development.

Pollee was serving his prison sentence on charges of murdering his landlord.

His family members claimed that on October 21, they were informed by the police that Pollee died in custody and his body had been shifted to the S.S.K.M. mortuary.

However when they went to the hospital, they did not find the body and the hospital authorities also did not provide any information.

The family was informed by the police on Thursday that Pollee's body was handed over to someone by mistake.
