4-0 Defeat: Dhoni Shattered, Yet Hopeful

Oval, Aug 22: When the test series against England started in early July, Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni may not have dreamt in his wildest dreams that his team would be whitewashed, that too in such a humiliating manner. He tasted one of the worst defeats in his career, the first series loss under his captaincy.

Nevertheless, though shattered by the dismal performance of the team, he has not lost hopes. He has already promised a comeback in the ODI series which starts on September 3.

Speaking after the match, Dhoni said, "It is very important to not forget this series. We can learn from our mistakes and hopefully not commit the same mistakes. Not to forget, this is a series loss after a long time so it tastes different. But that is what makes life more challenging, hopefully we learn things from this."

"It is quite difficult, we were under-prepared for the first Test but the same excuse doesn't hold throughout the series. The pressure kept mounting on us with each loss so it was tough to handle. We lost bowlers, and some batsmen in some innings. It was a mixture of everything so it became increasingly difficult. Whatever could go wrong, went wrong. It is important to perform, especially as a leader. What is important is to concentrate on the job rather than think about your profile, because once you enter the dressing room, you are just another player and nothing different."

"We will have 6-7 new players joining us. 50 over cricket is different; fielding is very important. With the youngsters coming in, it will become better. We have some time before the first match so we should be at our best."
