Mangaluru, Sep 23: Bajpe police registered cases against two tipper lorry drivers and owners on charges of illegally extracting and transporting sand from Phalguni river.
The police personnel on night rounds at about 4 am on September 23 spotted two tipper lorries at Nandya. The drivers left the tippers and fled when the police signalled to stop the tippers.
The two tipper lorries were found to be filled with sand. When the police went near Phalguni river, they saw that about 15 boats loaded with sand. Naushal and Naufal, who were getting the sand extracted illegally, jumped into the river when they saw the policemen, reached the other bank of the river and escaped. On closer observation into the boats with the help of police staff, the police personnel found that out of 15 boats, sand was filled fully in one boat, filled partly in eight boats and six boats were empty.




The police sources after inquiry were informed that the sand deck belongs to an individual named Riaz and he was getting the sand stolen by Naushad and Naufal. Cases were registered against Riaz, Naushad, Naufal, tipper lorry owners, drivers and owners of the boats.
