Riyadh: Sri Lankan Couple Killed in Road Crash

Riyadh, Aug 6(Arab News): Two people died, both Sri Lankans, and three others were hurt in a road accident. The funeral of the couple was held at Rabigh Friday morning.

The couple, Abdul Mohammed Buhari Muksith, 34, and his wife Sultan Mohammed Sithara, 32, were on their way to Rabigh from Jeddah. They were returning home after a suhoor meal.

According to a traffic police report, Muksith fell asleep on the wheel and this led to his car crashing into a moving container on the highway to Rabigh.

The couple died on the spot. Muksith's father and mother and the couple's six-year-old nephew, who were in the back seat of the car, survived with injuries.

Muksith is employed as a landscape supervisor at Petro Rabigh.

Sithara's brother Narjoon told Arab News that Muksith had brought his parents and his six-year-old nephew for Umrah.

After performing Umrah, Muksith was taking his parents home following a suhoor meal at Narjoon's house.

Narjoon said Muksith was very happy that he had brought his parents for Umrah, who were to travel to Colombo on Saturday.

Muksith's mother is still in critical condition — with serious injuries to both her legs — at King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah, while his father and his young nephew were discharged after treatment.

A senior official from the Sri Lankan Consulate in Jeddah told Arab News that the authorities extended their fullest cooperation in expediting the funeral arrangements of the deceased. The departure of Muksith's parents to Colombo will be delayed, he added.
