Thane, Aug 2 (IANS): A 30-year-old man set himself afire Tuesday in front of a municipal corporation office in Thane district, police said.
"Fire officials tried to save him and rushed him to the hospital immediately, but he was declared brought dead," a police officer told IANS.
"We are yet to ascertain the reason for the extreme step," the officer added.
A fire officer was also injured while saving the man, identified as Prashant Lahane, outside the municipal office in Ulhasnagar town.
However, sources close to Lahane say that he was protesting against municipal officials harassing his sister, who works as a teacher.
