India Vs England : Swann's dismissal gives encouragement to English bowlers: Broad

Nottingham, July 30 (IANS) England fast bowler Stuart Broad said Graeme Swann's dismissal will give the home bowlers some encouragement on the second day of the second cricket Test against England.

Swann was dismissed after a Praveen Kumar delivery reared from a short of good length area and hit the spinner on his gloves before flying to Abhinav Mukund at gully. Swann went for X-rays and didn't come out to the field in the last 45 minutes of the day.

Broad, for whom Trent Bridge is a local ground, said Kumar's delivery will boost the English bowlers.

"You never know what the wicket is like until both sides have batted on it, but we certainly know there is enough in there for the bowlers. We saw Graeme Swann's dismissal. The ball really leapt at him. So that will give us a lot of encouragement," said Broad.

"I think we are all excited about what will happen in tomorrow's morning session. We are certainly not going to chase wickets but we know at Trent Bridge the ball does the most in the mornings and it will be up to us to really grab the initiative. The bowlers are champing at the bit to get out there tomorrow morning," he said.

Broad and Swann gave England bowlers target to bowl at with their ninth-wicket stand of 73 in 70 balls.

"We had a little chat at tea and thought we needed to get the momentum back by Swanny and myself playing our natural games which meant looking to hit the ball if it was in our area," Broad said.

"If there was any width on the ball, I was going to throw my hands at it. There was still a little bit of swing there so it was hard to go hell for leather. I knew we had to get the Indian bowlers off bowling their line and length which they had done so well all day. That was the tactic and it paid off for a while."

Broad said the day belonged to India.

"It has been an exciting day and I have always believed that these days are better than 300 for one or 300 for two," he said. "But certainly India won three-quarters of the day, I thought they bowled brilliantly."

"It was a good toss to win and for us to be only two down at lunch was fantastic. You can't blame too many of our batsmen for throwing away their wickets. There were some good deliveries in there."
