Indian girls in quarterfinals of world junior squash


Boston, July 28 (IANS) Indian girls topped Group C with an unbeaten record and qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Junior Squash Championships at Harvard, near here, on Wednesday.

In their concluding league match, India drubbed Ecuador 3-0 by winning all the three singles ties in straight games and will next meet England in the knock-out stage.

The trio of Anaka Alankamony, Ankita Sharma and Aparajitha Balamurukan came through their respective singles matches without even breaking a sweat.

The results:

India beat Ecuador 3-0 (Anaka Alankamony bt Mireya Lucia Espinosa Proano 11-0, 11-2, 11-0; Ankita Sharma bt Maria Jose Guarderas Sevilla 11-2, 11-5, 11-2; Aparajitha Balamurukan bt Nicole Gordillo Bravo 11-5, 11-2, 11-5.
