Mumbai Blast Toll Rises to 24


Mumbai, Jul 25 (IANS): The toll in July 13 serial blasts rose to 24 Monday, with another injured succumbing to his injuries at a hospital here, an official said.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Disaster Control Centre, Mankeshwar Vishwakarma, 48, passed away at the KEM Hospital.

Vishwakarma, a carpenter, had gone to Dadar's Kabutarkhana market to buy plywood July 13 evening, when he was injured in the blast.

According to a hospital official, Vishwakarma, who was admitted in an unconscious state, died without regaining consciousness.

Seventeen people died on the spot in the three blasts at Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar Kabutarkhana July 13 evening.

Of the 131 people injured, seven have succumbed to their injuries post-blast.

Some of the surviving injured are still under treatment at various public and private hospitals, while the rest have been discharged.
