Israeli Weapons Used in Karachi Unrest: Rehman Malik

Islamabad, Jul 18 (IANS): The use of Israeli-made weapons indicates "foreign hands" behind the Karachi unrest, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said.

"Over 200 persons have been arrested and Israeli-made weapons including AK-45, have been recovered from them. It proves that foreign hands are behind the unrest in Karachi," Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Malik as saying here Sunday.

Spiralling violence in Karachi, which began July 5, has left over 100 people dead. Though the situation had marginally improved, fresh violence broke out after provincial minister Zulfiqar Mirza, who is from the ruling Pakistan People's Party, criticised the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Malik said investigations were being conducted to know who were supplying the weapons.

To a question, he said there was target killing in Karachi but every murder was not an incident of target killing.

Investigations in most of the cases have pointed out that 66 percent people were killed in Karachi due to personal enmity, he added.
