Noida, Jul 18: In a gruesome case of murder that came to light on Saturday July 17 night, a 24-year-old techie from Uttar Pradesh allegedly hit and strangled his 22-year-old wife before hiding her body in a bed box.

He reportedly confessed to his crime before his in-laws who informed the police. He was arrested on Sunday July 17.

Shavendra Mishra and his fashion designer wife Pragya are said to have got into a heated argument over some issue when Shavendra, in a fit of rage, banged her head with a heavy lock which made her faint. He then strangled her with a cord, and out of fear of getting caught, he shoved her body into a bed box and tried to escape.

However, before fleeing, he went to Pragya's parents' house and confessed his crime to his father-in-law. He later tried to escape, before the police caught him.

The couple had moved into their newly-rented house earlier this month. They were married in 2005 but started living together only in 2009 after the traditional 'gauna'. Sources said the two were not in good terms and were even staying in separate rooms.

Shavendra who hails from Bhawnipur in UP, is a freelance computer teacher in Delhi.
Pragya's body was recovered later by the police who broke open the door of the couple's house. Forensic experts collected blood samples from the scene of the crime and the body has been sent for postmortem.
