Thailand A wins Yamaha ASEAN Cup

Bangkok, July 17 (IANS) Thailand A came from behind to score a thrilling 2-1 victory over Indonesia and win the 3rd Yamaha ASEAN Cup Under-13 football tournament at the Yamaha Stadium here Saturday.

The hosts were trailing 0-1 at the half time. They played aggressively but were unable to convert the half chances. Just when the things were slipping out of their hands for the Thais, a penalty came as a windfall and they converted it to level the scores.

Egged on by a vociferous crowd and with Indonesian now reduced to 10 boys, Thailand's Tanapat Khathippatee scored the second goal to give his side the lead in the dying minutes.

The winning side got the Yamaha ASEAN Cup Trophy and a medal for each player.

The next edition of the tournament will take place in Malaysia.

India, who participated in the tournament for the first time, were knocked out Friday after they lost both their matches.

However, India's defender Suman Malakar made it to the list of 'Best 11' awards, in which the best players of the tournament are selected.
