Udupi, May 20: The union ministry of housing and urban affairs has opened Reduce, Reuse & Recycle centres (RRR centres) at eight places in Udupi municipal council limits under Swachh Bharath Mission – 2. The campaign is meant to protect the environment by recycling the products that can be reused and reduce their manufacture.

The centres will be open from May 20 to June 5 near Malpe beach, near Mannapalla park, near dry waste centre at Beedinagudde, near Bannanje Karavali Bypass dry waste centre, near Adi Udupi market, near Gandhi Bhavan, near Reliance Fresh and near D Mart. People can handover their items in those centres.

Municipal council environment engineer Sneha said that toys, old clothes, old stationery, newspapers, plastic bags and electronic items can be given there. “Those will be collected every Saturday. Old clothes will be washed and handed over to orphanages. Newspapers and electronic items will be handed over to dealers. Plastic carry bags will be segregated and will be given to cement companies. Those who segregate waste will be honoured with prizes and certificates,” she said.

Municipal council commissioner R P Nayak has requested people to make use of the facilities.
