Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), July 12 (IANS) In a case of honour killing, a 20-year-old youth was strangled to death here by the parents of the woman he was in a relationship with, police said Tuesday. The couple have been arrested.

Arvind Kumar was found dead Monday in Halalpur village, near the house of the 19-year-old woman with whom he was having an affair for the last one year.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the father and the mother of the girl brutally assaulted Arvind and later strangulated him to death," police Inspector S.B. Atoria told reporters in Saharanpur, some 500 km from Lucknow.

"It appears that the girl's parents attacked Arvind after he was caught meeting their daughter secretly. It appears to be a case of honour killing as the girl's parents were opposed to their affair," he added

The father Shyamlal and his wife Mamta have been arrested.

"Further investigations are on to ascertain whether other people were involved in the killing," said Atoria.
