Will Ensure Smooth Monsoon Session: Shukla

New Delhi, July 12 (IANS): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajiv Shukla Tuesday said he would ensure a smooth monsoon parliament session and his work in the Indian cricket board will not affect his new responsibility.

"I will try to solicit the cooperation of all political parties. We'll definitely ensure a much peaceful monsoon session. This is what I hope, I am very optimistic," Shukla said after he was named minister of state for parliamentary affairs.

"Keeping in mind the past few sessions, it's definitely a very crucial job to handle," he said.

Speaking on the stalling of parliament by the opposition, Shukla said a detailed debate and discussion must take place in parliament on any issue.

"We have always been saying we have never been reluctant to discuss any issue... The government is willing to discuss and debate every issue and answer every question."

Shukla said his work as vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not take much of his time and would in no way hamper his new role as a minister.

Shukla cited examples of Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Minister for Road, Transport and Highways C.P Joshi, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia and oopposition leader in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley -- who are all or were associated with BCCI.

"I don't think it is going to hamper my responsibilities (as minister)," said Shukla.
