Mumbai: Eighth All India Kannada Cultural Convention – 2011 in Metro from Aug 6 to 7

Mumbai, Jul 7: Eighth All India Kannada Cultural Convention – 2011 will be held at the aegis of Mangalore based Hrudayavahini, Kannada magazine and metro based Kannada Sangha that is at the threshold of platinum jubilee celebrations, at Billava Bhavan, Santacruz (East) here from Saturday August 6 to Sunday August 7.

The Convention aims at promoting Kannada, it’s distinct culture, art, customs and traditions in national level, besides strengthening the bond of Kannadigas settled in metro and their children with Kannadigas from all over the country.  It will serve as an ideal platform for cultural exchange with native Kannadiga artistes.  Poetry session, laughter session, media session, NRI Kannadigas’ session and health session, Bharatanatyam show, dance recital, Yakshagana and musical concert will be held as part of cultural programmes.

Karnataka environment minister Krishna J Palemar and Karnataka Border Area Development Authority president Chandrakant Bellad will be invited for inaugural ceremony on Saturday August 6.

A cultural group of over 100 members including litterateurs and artistes will arrive from Karnataka to partake in the Convention.

Kannada Development Authority president Mukyamantri Chandru and Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Dr Nallur Prasad and others will attend the valedictory function on Sunday August 7.

The Convention chairman will be announced by the end of this month. 

Hrudayavantaru – 2011 Honorary Award will be conferred to 7 distinguished achievers from Karnataka and Kannadigas from rest of the country.
