Sullia: Fishes, water creatures die at Kukke Darpana Theertha – Water pollution suspected

Sullia, Apr 6: Thousands of fishes and water creatures have died and are seen floating on the water at Darpana Theertha river of Valagadakeri near Subramanya in the taluk. It is suspected that river water is contaminated due to some pollutant.

Locals are scared due to the death of a vast number of fishes including Devara Meenu. Many have fallen on the bank of the river. It is said that sewage water from nearby residential buildings and drainage water getting flown into the river is the reason for this occurrence. Many have expressed anguish against the negligence of the administration.

Foul smell is emanating due to the dead fishes and creatures. People living in nearby residential areas are unable to bear the stench. There is also the possibility of contagious disease getting spread. So far, none of the officials have visited the spot, according to locals.
