UAE Reiterates its Commitment to Nuclear Safety


Vienna, June 22 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reiterated its commitment for highest nuclear safety measures through its efforts to set up the national nuclear safety infrastructure and preparedness to implement the lessons learnt from the recent nuclear accident in Japan.

UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash expressed UAE's committment during a speech at the nuclear safety conference which opened Monday in Vienna.

The minister expressed UAE's sympathy with the Japanese people, who were shaken by the March 11 earthquake and ensuing tsunami that claimed thousands of lives.

He said the UAE has learnt from the lessons of the Fukushima nuclear plant accident by setting up autonomous work teams to assess the accident and the causes.
