Udupi: Theft of jewellery while boarding train – Manipal police nab culprits within eight hours

Udupi, Mar 15: Manipal station police in a swift operation arrested two women in connection with the theft of Rs four lac worth gold ornaments from the vanity bag of a train passenger when she was boarding the train.

The arrested accused are identified as Shivamogga resident Lalita Bovi (41) and Bhadravati resident Susheelamma (64). It was found after investigations that they are addicted to thefts drawing the attention of victims away, picking pockets especially targeting senior citizens.

Puneeth Vasanth Hegde was boarding the train running between Mangaluru and Mumbai at Indrali railway station in the company of her family members on March 14. She found her vanity bag in which she had kept the ornaments open. The cover in which the ornaments were kept was missing. The ornaments were worth about Rs four lac.

Soon after the complaint was registered at Manipal police station, the police team of PSI Navin Naika, ASI Shailesh, HC Imran, Shubha and Arana Chalekar in the leadership of Manipal police inspector visited the railway station and went through the CCTV footage in the leadership of railway police. They obtained details of the suspects, conducted the operation and succeeded in nabbing them within eight hours of the incident.

Cases were registered against the accused earlier at Honnali police station, Davanagere district and other places in Karnataka. The ornaments stolen by them were recovered and they were produced in the court.

    Without police help these thieves cannot steal in railway platforms. What is the use of CCTVs if they are not monitored by railway staff or police. The pickpocket ers roam around railway station. Also police should not cover the culprits face.

    Congratulations to Police .Many times cant make out how these gang take off from bag .Goodthere was a cctv camera helpful.Put them inside for long.They must be professional thieves.
