Udupi: Drainage water in well - Residents suffer vomitting, diarrhea

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS/JD)

Udupi, Mar 5: Residents of the Sharada Kalyana Mantapa area are experiencing vomiting and diarrhea after consuming well water that has been contaminated by drainage water.

During the repair work of the road that connects Beedinagudde from Sharada Kalyana Mantapa, JCB machines dug up the concrete road causing damage to the drainage pipes. As a result, the drainage water mixed with the well water of nearby areas, leading to contamination.

Social worker Nityananda Olakadu has requested the health department to take corrective action immediately by visiting the affected area.

This is only by name called a Smart City; ever since the density of population started increasing by leaps and bounds, there was no commensurate increase in developing well mapped sewerage system and other amenities like water supply etc. IMHO, majority of the open wells within city limits are already badly contaminated with sewage water and the water not fit for human consumption. This can be proven if every open well owner gives the water for microbiological and chemical analysis; and with water scarcity looming large, the tanker water suppliers, with no supervision as to from which source they are sourcing water, only divine grace can protect the people who consume such water! IMHO, such contaminated water can only be neutralized by boiling on fire for extra long, and not by any filtration process done by the filters comercially available in the market!! Smart City is going retrograde!! With the maximum temperatures soaring to the highest in the country already, it remains a very inhospitable place to live considering the sky high cost of real estate and cost of living!!

Nothing to be surprised; it has been going on for years; people only need to send their water for analysis, collate and see the % of wells contaminated and not fit for human consumption; this is called as a smart city but for all the wrong reasons!
