Nagpur: Maha CID to Investigate Theft of Gandhi's Spectacles

Nagpur, Jun 15 (PTI) Maharashtra CID will probe the disappearance of Mahatma Gandhi's spectacles from Sevagram Asharam in Wardha district, police said today.

Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan had last night said that Additional Secretary (Home) would conduct a probe into the issue but finally the state CID has been entrusted with the job, they said.

The round specs, kept in a glass covered box along with other personal belongings of the Father of the Nation at the Ashram, about 80 kms near here, was found missing yesterday by the Asharam management.

Though the specs are assumed to have been stolen by unidentified persons sometime back, Asharam authorities lodged a formal complaint with Wardha Police only after reports of its theft surfaced yesterday.
