Dubai, Feb 13: Kannada film 'Gurbi' under the banner of Durgamba Films Brahmavara, produced by Meera Krishnappa Uppoor was successfully released in Galleria Cinema, Hyatt Regency Deira Dubai on February 12 with a houseful show.

Directed by award winning director Krishnappa Uppoor who has to his credit having bagged state award for ‘Kanchilda Bale’ and ‘Mahanadi’, has beautifully presented ‘Gurbi’ the subject around the tribal atrocities and the untouchables that relates to the year 1960. He has captured the natural beautiful scenes of Hallihole, Devarabalu, Ballur and Balehonnur with water and forests. These natural scenic beauties are never seen in current commercial films. Soothing background music enveloped the whole movie.

‘Gurbi’ bring before the people glimpses of rural life, and the extent of exploitation a community that is basically rural-centric and socially sidelined, experienced during those days.

'Gurbi', which literally means a grown-up girl, centers around the story of a tribal family living in a very backward village set up. The movie traverses through the life experiences of the girl's father, elder brother, and her family. The film revolves around communities which are deprived of basic facilities, a community which fails to make its problems heard, and the minds of the family that are unable to openly confess what problems and experiences they are going through.

Gurbi was portrayed by Ashwita, from Hiriyadka, who is an accomplished Yakshagana artiste too has given full credit to her role as a leading character. Renowned dramatist, Jeevanram Sullia as her father, theatre personality, Mandya Ramesh and Keerthiraj along with very many new faces have given their best performance in this movie.

Krishnappa’s top priority is to spread social concern and at the same time he introduced very many new talents picked from rural, poor background.Through ‘Gurbi’ he has given good message to the society with a bold non-commercial film and the concluding part always remains as a question to the audience to think of.

Audience in Dubai really liked the movie and in their review has requested Shodhan Prasad of Sandhya Creations to always bring in to Dubai movie like ‘Gurbi’ a worth to watch and which is very rare to see produced nowadays.

SCENT (Sandhya Creations Even Network Team) worked hard to successfully present an art film ‘Gurbi’ to the theatre loving audience and are planning to have more shows in the coming days in other parts of the Emirates and GCC Countries. They thanked all those who have supported wholeheartedly.
