Kundapur, Feb 8: Police constable Rama Gowda (32) ended his life at Kasarakod Eco Beach in Honnavar taluk which came to light on Tuesday. It is suspected that the deceased cop was either unwell or was suffering from financial distress due to online betting.

Rama Gowda, son of Nagesh Gowda, hailed from Nadu Maskeri village of Kumta taluk in Uttara Kannada district. Rama Gowda was serving as a police constable in Kundapura police station.

He had abstained from duty since February 2 without informing his colleagues or his superiors. His mobile phone was also found switched off for the last 4-5 days, it is learnt.

On Tuesday, his mortal remains were found in a park near the Eco Beach where he had hanged himself to a tree. A bag was also found nearby, it is learnt. Kundapura SI Eraiah and other staffers visited the spot in Honnavar where Rama Gowda had ended his life. Honnavar police have registered a case.

It is also said that he was unwell for some time. He had taken loans from different banks to take part in online betting games. Volleyball player blew the final whistle himself before the Referee.... Gambling is the worst addiction of all where you loose everything and yet continue betting with others money... It is even more catastrophic for the society than substance abuse... Feel sad for the young cop and his distressed family... Government must think in lines of giving employment to his sister... I hop local politicians will show kind heart in this... RIP to the departed soul....
